Skating Queen

Like any three-year-old, Xylie loved opening presents on Christmas morning. Had we left the next day, that would have been her favorite part of the trip to Pennsylvania, but since we stayed a few extra days, she had an experience that iced her Christmas Visit cake!

Aunt JeanAnn invited Xylie and me to go ice skating with her, something that Xylie has been asking to do for months and something that her mommy does not do well enough to teach her. Fortunately, JeanAnn is a great skater and was able to help Xylie glide along the ice as I hung to the wall for my first lap until I summoned just enough confidence to motor along on my own about as quickly as gooey caramel slides out of a chocolate coating.

Xylie became braver and braver as the two hours passed and a few times she was even able to balance and glide on her own. She had a blast and is begging us to go again. She didn't want to leave the ice and said "Oh, I wish I can come here everyday and skate and skate and skate!" Since both of our birthdays are in January, I am seriously giving thought to us taking some mother-daughter lessons. We do have a rink here in Charleston called the Carolina Ice Palace...actually, it is the official training headquarters for Olympic Gold Medalist Tara Lipinski.

Here are some pictures. I was unable to capture action photos, but got some nice stills.
