Happy Birthday Shane

My brother-in-law, Shane celebrates his 28th birthday today. Shane is one of those all-American boy scout types who most people meet and love instantly. He captured my sister Maranda's heart when they were teenagers. Shane is a wonderful husband and father and does a great job with putting up with his wife's sometimes nutty family...present company included. Today's Thursday Thirteen is in Shane's honor and comes from guest columnist Maranda.

1. Shane is an avid fisherman. He owns his own boat and most summer evenings he can be spotted fishing on the Susquehanna river. He can't wait for his son Jack's first trip on the boat.

2. Shane enjoys cooking and baking and is quite good at both activities. He often gives his wife a break and cooks the family dinner.

3. Shane is great at woodworking. He made his entire bedroom set in his 12th grade shop class. It turned out so good that the school Superintendent tried to buy it from him.

4. Shane met Maranda at the Colonnade movie theater in Millersburg when he was 15 years old.

5. Shane's first job was working for his father driving handicapped children to and from school.

6. Shane is such a nice guy that when he once accidentally hit a cat while driving late at night, he drove the fractured feline 40 miles to an all-night animal hospital--the cat suffered a broken nose, jaw, and leg. Shane took it home, nursed it back to good health and the cat now bears the name Tiggs and is a part of the family.

7. Shane has such a great bond with his 6 month old son, Jack. From day one, he dove in head first. He changes dirty diapers without complaining, he often feeds him his solid foods despite the mess, and gives him his bath every night. They are great buddies.

8. Currently, Shane works for a company that builds heat exchangers that are shipped around the world. They are also used on off-shore oil rigs.

9. Shane has lived in the small town of Millersburg since birth. He bought his childhood home when his parents put it up for sale and lives there today with his wife and son.

10. Shane was so excited when he and Maranda were expecting their first child that he never missed a single Doctor's appointment or Lamaze class and never once left his wife's side during her 42 hour labor.

11. Football is really the only sport Shane watches and his favorite team is the San Fransisco 49'ers--even though they haven't had a winning season in years!!! Shane's true-blue.

12. Shane has an older brother, Jason and besides Xylie and Zayden, he is also an Uncle to two adorable nieces--Katelin and Hannah.

13. In high school, Shane's favorite subjects were Math and Science and his least favorite subjects were English and Vocabulary.

Ang, Thanks so much for remembering Shane's birthday and for allowing me the honor of being a guest columnist. It kind of makes me want a blog of my own. Shane also really loved the post! Thanks again!!! Love, Maranda

Mer,

You should totally start a blog. It is so easy. I can actually help you start one if you'd like. IF you open a free gmail account you can do a blogger one and it is super simple. It leads you thru all the steps. Putting pictures on is really easy too.
