Earlier this week, I scolded Xylie for speaking to me in a disrespectful tone. Feeling both sad and perhaps angry at my reprimand she turned to walk away from me. As she did, she picked up a Bible that was setting on a nearby dresser. I asked her why she grabbed the Bible and she replied "I just want to hold it close to me now." She's four years-old and unable to read, but on some rudimentary level she recognizes healing power of the Word of God. It serves as a good reminder to me. When feeling sad, angry, or broken whether it by my own sin or the malignant actions of another my first actions should be a mature version of my daughter's. I should look for solace from the words of the Great Healer. That could be by literally opening my Bible, pulling out a scripture card, looking up a verse on line or going to a place in my home that contains printed scripture, like a picture or calendar. Sometimes hurt occurs in the midst of chaos and the best I can do at that moment is to look no further than to a scripture card held in place by a magnet on my refrigerator door. As long as I immediately turn my focus on God and away from myself, healing can begin.
It warms my heart to see young children seeking God and learning how to serve Him. Xylie is certainly learning. Today at church we witnessed three children baptized. The youngest was is a little boy, Bryant, whom we've only known for 6 months but will be forever held dear. Bryant is one of Xylie's buddies and is the brother of her friend Delainey. I know his parents Jaime and Caleb were so proud to watch their only son publicly proclaim his faith in Christ and be Baptized in front of the congregation. Xylie watched the event and cheered for her friend and we both stood up and raised our hands when asked if we would pray for Bryant throughout the week. This is certainly a young man who will have many gifts to use for the glory of His Creator.

Xylie is such a sweetheart! Isn't amazing the lessons God uses our kids to teach us?
