Harmful Plastics

We've heard the recent reports about a substance in some plastics that could be harmful to babies and toddlers. We were happy to find out that Zayden's sippy cups, the Nuby brand, are not among those that contain this substance. And we've started heating his milk in glass, rather than plastic, as recommended. Of course, his sippy cups are not the only plastic substance that he puts in his mouth. Almost every toy he has is plastic, and every toy goes in his mouth! It's unavoidable. For the other parents out there, we're curious what you think. Have you made any changes is response to these reports? Do you think it's much ado about nothing?

We switched to Naglene and stainless steel water bottles.
I have an unhealthy fear of chemicals.

Okay, I know most people out there think I'm a freak (which isn't entirely wrong) but this is one of the reasons I don't own a microwave. I know, I'm so extreme. But there are harmful toxins that are produced when certain plastics are microwaved. So, I figure it's one way I can minimize junk going into my children's bodies. (Let me also clarify that I don't think badly of everyone else in the world who does have a microwave)

So, tell me about the sippy cups are supposedly harmful? Do you have a link or any additional info. Could be that I missed that?

LOL..As I was checking my E-mail I saw 2 comments that needed to be moderated under All That Naz and the subject was toxic plastics. I thought someone had hacked into my pc until I remembered that I gave Napp administration powers as well. Oh Wendy, I am not sure if you read reply comments but I read that Nalgene bottles do contain the harmful stuff. Jaime, I'll try to find you a link.

Nalgene’s polycarbonate bottles are the ones with BPAs. We use the HDPE and LDPE bottles. They are made with non leaching plastics.
I use a KLEAN KANTEEN stainless steel bottle for myself.
We use almost no leaching plastic products, all of my cleaning products are either 7th Generation or homemade, and all my kids wore cloth diapers. I have a serious chemical phobia lol.

OK, so Weny, you are our go-to-girl on all things chemical.

Sorry-didn't mean to go off on a rant:)
I'm highly excitable.

LOL, Wendy (sorry about the typo). I didn't think you went off in a rant at all. You sound really knowledgeable. :-)
