First Day of Nazzy Pre-School

We started home school preschool today for the X-Factor. Little Z-man also participated in a few events. The X-Factor really wanted to call me "teacher" instead of mommy, so we compromised. She will be calling me Mrs. N. Not because of this blog, but because we are learning/reviewing letters (She knows all her letters and how to write them) and our last name starts with an N. Sometimes I impress myself. Not really.

Here's a basic outline of our day after breakfast and clean up.

  1. Prayer and Bible Time - I read to her the story of God creating Adam and Eve and we talked some about self image as well.
  2. Discovery - This morning, I found what looks like a Brown Recluse Spider. We (Dr. N and I) squashed and bagged him and Dr. N will take him to UGA's etymology department for identification. The X- Factor and I learned some spider facts and then we drew the spider that we found in our dining room. Our drawings are not to size and fortunately quite a bit larger than the blood sucking insect.
My Spider - Color of the real spider was a gold/brown top with a black and brown bottom, long legs, and black eyes and big fangs...6 eyes!!!
X-Factor's Spider - She took creative licensing for the legs.
3. Alphabet Time - Her assignment was to neatly color an alligator that we cut out together. We also practiced making A's and made a little poster for the dining room/home school room wall. We will be creating our own alphabet banner.
The Finished Projects

4. Physical Education, Free Play and then lunch - We did some stretches, exercises and spent some time creating games with a giant ball. Then the kids had some free playtime together before a healthy lunch.

5. Math Time - After lunch, Z-man went to bed and the X-Factor and I worked on some math skills. She traced and then drew numbers 1-10. Then she completed a worksheet circling the number of items in a row that corresponded to the number printed to the left of the items.

6. Sign Language Time - We watched Signing Times together. She also learned how to sign A.

Signing and saying the letter A

The sign for letter A that she colored and then we added to the A portion of our soon to become banner

7. Science Time - We spent some time talking about the weather and then watched "The Magic School Bus" together. This won't be science time every day, but it was the full day and I think the spider certainly counts toward science too...and this is preschool after all.

8. Reading Time - We ended official school time today by reading a chapter of the Little House on The Prairie book. I read of course.

Now, she's having quiet time while her brother naps. She asked if she could spend the time practicing her cutting.

I think we had a great morning. The X-Factor is a bit of a perfectionist, so there were moments that it was hard to see her get so frustrated. She was really bummed that she colored out of the lines a tad on the sign language A...hence the frowning face on the picture of her signing.

Looks like it was a great day!!! You've given me some ideas, too, when I start teaching letters of the alphabet! I'm not doing the alphabet in order, though, but making a banner is a really neat idea!!!

We're starting the alphabet next week. We'll be learning the letter "T" and all about turtles.

Can't wait to hear more from you! I love seeing everyone's unique schools and ideas!

Oh, where'd you get her alphabet printouts? The ones I have are just plain letters.

Can you believe I was once bit by a brown recluse spider? The treatment? Not. Fun.

I'm glad y'all had a great day.

Angela,

How exciting! It feels good to be involved in doing formal instruction/teaching with our little ones, doesn't it! You're doing a great job :)

This is really inspiring! K will be going to preschool next week which will involve some therapies and special teaching for some of his delays. I am still not sure what our plan will be for my other two. Jay is 3 1/2 and I think I will implement some of your ideas into our daily routine for him. Really neat!
