Wishes are funny things. They are completely dependent on a set of circumstances, perceived or real. Wishes are not necessarily bound by rational thought. I for one am glad that not all wishes are granted. If Xylie's wishes came true there would be a pony on our porch and a pantry in our kitchen filled with nothing but"Barbie the Island Princess" fruit snacks.
As an adult, I still have my share of nonsensical wishes, such as the ability to teleport or to fit into my size 4 jeans. But I do think that even my craziest desires have come a long way from what they were when I was in high school. One particular silly wish rushed into my mind yesterday morning as I waited for my doctor's diagnosis. In high school, I wished for a bad knee. It wasn't my only wish...I had dreams of starring in the school musical, being crowned homecoming queen, and being asked to the prom. The knee problem actually had the best chance of coming true. I grew up in a small town and there were only 51 other students in my graduating class. It seemed that all the cute, popular, athletic girls had a knee brace.
I wanted one too. I minimalized the pain those girls must have experienced and saw only the "glory." How warped was my thinking? I wanted the admiration and positive attention the knee brace brought And, I not only wanted the knee brace, I wanted a good story to go with it like busting my knee while skiing in the Rockies, or twisting it while rescuing children from a burning building. A story of sorts that may have gotten me a prom date without my mom having to ask her friend to ask her son...LOL.
Yesterday, that old high school wish came back to haunt me and let me tell you, it is not living up to the hype! I have a knee injury and am required to wear a knee immobilizer for the next week. I am not sure if the worst part of the knee brace is: A) The pain I have been and am in to require a brace; B) The fact that I am not getting any special attention---lying sideways on my floor to get my laundry out of the dryer is proof positive of that; or C) The fact that I do not have a cool story to tell.
I'm not even 100% sure how I injured it. It could be just an "on the job" injury. Carrying a baby on ones hip while dancing with a three year-old can throw a body out of wack. So here I am at 33 with a knee brace and so very uncool.
What a pair Napp and I make. He has a bum back and I've got a bum knee. You should have seen us get both kids into the car this morning. I drove him to work because at 2:30 Eastern time he has another injection. A colleague of his has kindly volunteered to take Napp to the procedure and drive him home afterward. We are praying that this will be the healing dose and that he'll be pain free in a matter of days. So, if there are any words of wisdom to come from this blog it is the old adage, "Be careful what you wish for."
Now for some fun stuff! I know that most of you read this blog for pictures of the kids and I don't blame you! I love looking at them too. I love keeping the blog picture heavy because it helps friends and family feel connected. (By the way, I absolutely love it when people write comments on the blog...I often wonder if anyone is reading so your comments give me extra motivation to keep writing--please don't be shy, but do remember that the comments are not private.) Here are some recent fun pictures.

Oh no! I am so sorry you and Napp are hurting. Hope you both feel better soon. Scott hurt his back last year and it took almost a year to get back into pain free shape.
