I'm not much of a T.V. watcher these days. The Professor and I enjoy watching movies together and have some favorite shows, like Lost, but seldom can I be caught choosing T.V. for solo entertainment. This wasn't always the case, but within the past year, if I want to unwind alone, I usually write or read. However, on Sunday night, while folding laundry, I decided to watch T.V.
The Professor was wrapped up in his new Facebook hobby, so we didn't need to agree on the show. I keep a few guilty pleasures TIVO'd just in case I do watch something alone and decided that Ghost Whisperer would be the perfect background distraction to minimize the doldrums of laundry folding.
I'm not a horror movie type of girl, so in some ways, my interest in the show surprises me, but I have always liked intense drama and suspense. Plus in reality, Ghost Whisperer doesn't cause me to shake, scream or turn every light in the house on while watching. I think the fact that I can usually guess the ending kicker about 20 minutes into the show helps.
However there are two things I really like about Jennifer Love Hewitt's hit series.
1) Her wardrobe. If I had an unlimited clothing budget that obviously comes with being an Antique Shop owner and wife of a Paramedic, I would dress like JLH's character, Melinda. She's almost always wearing some sort of cute dress. I also love her collection of night gowns. Personally, I find long flowing night gowns too restricting for sleep, but I love the idea of them.
2) The relationship between Melinda and her husband Jim. Mainly, Jim's devotion to Melinda. It is not easy to find T.V. shows without feuding couples or relational angst. But in Ghost Whisperer, the couple have this incredible, bonding love. Not only that, the husband has great heroic one liners. My favorite from this past episode happened when Jim confronted Melinda's father in a threatening manner. Her father said something snarky like "Oh, Jim, I thought you were sworn to save lives." Jim's reply..."That comes in a roaring second after saving my wife." A roaring second. Love that!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, some of you are rolling your eyes (probably even my own husband--eh-hem), and some of you may think I'm a heathen for even watching a show about ghosts...and yes, I do recognize the corniness..but I just love scenes that depict strong marital ties.

I'm a heathen right along with you except my guilty pleasure is "Medium". The relationship between the husband and wife in this show is really good too. You got to admire a man that sticks with his wife even thought she wakes in the middle of the night screaming from a vision, and scares the "who ha" out of him!
