Sincerely Fro Me To You

The above illustration by Evelyn Strong is a picture from my memory and will someday soon be a part of a children's book I wrote.

The handsome man reading the newspaper and patiently allowing that little girl to twist his thick black hair around pink sponge curlers...that's my grandfather...PapPap.

That little girl clad in pink jammies...that's me.

Some of the sweetest memories I own were created from childhood experiences shared with my PapPap...devouring bowls of strawberry ice cream, visiting the cows at a neighboring farm, traipsing through the woods hunting teabearies...such special times...such a special man. I am so blessed that he is still with us.

It was the early 90's - SFMTY

IT was the early 90's, that's my only defense for the floral leggings, boxy shoes and velvet hat. But let me just write for the record...I stand by the hat. I loved the hat. For more Fro Me To you, Visit Kristen at We Are That Family.

Holy Matrimony - Sincerely Fro Me To You

Nine years ago today, I officially became Mrs. N. Actually, that's not 100 percent true...I got married, but my name change took place about two weeks later. It's been a crazy, yet beautiful nine years. I wrote a more formal and touching tribute at Becoming Me.

Happy Anniversary honey. I am truly blessed to call you my best friend.

Big Hair Memories - Sincerely Fro Me to You

The picture above was taken in 1992 a few weeks before I entered college. As someone with naturally stick-straight hair, it took me three hours to achieve this 'do that wilted a few minutes after this picture was snapped.

I was in New Orleans on a trip with my youth group and a few thousand other Missouri Synoid Lutherans (that was the church I grew up attending).

I remember setting my hair in both these heated rubber sticks and rubber hot curlers. I forget the names of the products, but not the fact that setting the curls burnt my fingers.

My main mission for the evening was to make my ex-boyfriend regret breaking up with me...oh if only my maturity could have been as big as my hair.

Flying Time-Sincerely Fro Me to You

X-Factor has always loved going to Chuck E Cheese. She loves the games, the rides, the pizza, and the mouse. Last week, we went to CEC for an hour and I snapped this picture of her on the "clock ride." And just below is the first picture I took of her and my PapPap with the famous, but not most famous, mouse, when she was 20-months-old. My baby girl is becoming such a big girl. And, oh, how I wish my PapPap could take her to see Chuck E again.

Little Green Dress - Fro Me To You

For most little girls, the primo color is pink. My daughter and my little niece both went through an "I Only Wear Pink!" phase. However, when I was a toddler, it wasn't a pink dress that made me feel like a princess. Nope. It was green. Did I know it was the perfect compliment to my matching peepers? Probably not, but my mom did, and that's why she bought the dress. That and because it was adorable. OK, so it screams 70'S! But I loved it, frilly flower choker collar and all.

I can actually remember requesting to wear that lacy frock on many occasions. Oh, the twirling I could so in that dress and my black patent leather Mary Janes. Pay close attention to the sagging lacy tights. Elephant legs. Without further ado, here is a picture of me and my favorite dress from childhood. I was three when the photo was snapped.

Daddy's Valentine Fro Me To You

This is one of my all time favorite pictures of Dr. N and the X-Factor. She was three weeks old and fell asleep during a "Photo Shoot." Dr. N was on his way to work and I snapped this lovely photo of him kissing his little angel before leaving. He's been an amazing Daddy from day one.
