Moving stinks. I hate it. There are, however, some benefits. This is my attempt to look at the silver lining as I sit here with a terribly sore back, surrounded by unpacked boxes.
- I get to drive the truck. I'm one of the guys who likes to watch those shows on the Discovery Channel about real masculine jobs, where they get to operate heavy machinery. I may never get to work on an oil rig, but at least I can drive a moving truck every once and a while.
- I appreciate good friends more. I've moved 8 times since 1999. In all these moves, we've had incredible friends who helped out in amazing, selfless ways. This move was no exception.
- I get rid of a lot of useless stuff. Since I want to move as little stuff as possible, I always end up getting rid of stuff that hasn't seen the light of day since, well, the last move. So, looking at it this way, moving is a very cleansing experience.
- I clean parts of furniture that normally don't get cleaned. Moving is an excellent opportunity to clean behind desks, the tops of bookshelves, and such.
- I get to eat out more. Since I don't have access to cooking facilities for at least several days during the move, it's a convenient excuse to try some dining establishments that I otherwise would not be able to justify because of the cost.

I have not had to move quite as much as you, but I love making new friends, getting/decorating a new house, starting fresh, hmmmmmmmmm...that's all I can think of right now.

OOhhh, unpacking boxes. I LOVE unpacking boxes. Ok, that was my sarcasm at work. That is not a best thing. I would have to say the shopping to organize the new abode. That's been my favorite thing, but then again, it's been nine years SINCE I've moved, and so far that's my only best thing.
Ok, maybe the eating out.... Are you in your new home yet?
I hate moving too! The best part about moving for me is getting to go through all of my stuff. We just moved a couple of months ago. I got rid of so much stuff. It felt great!!! I also like not having to cook:)
Getting to START OVER, especially if it is a new town. Also, DECORATING! Getting to buy new stuff for the house... I hope you have a happy move! Stay positive!!!

We are Gators...well, Dr. N is a Gator and I'm a Gator by marriage, but we aren't obnoxious Gators and we really don't think of the Dawgs as a bitter enemy...I think that as long as we are here that I will root for the Dawgs unless they play the Gators and then I'll hide inside to do my rooting. :-)

Being a little OCD, I love that when you move, you get to clean everything really well before you put it in its new place. All of the carpet is vacuumed, behind the washer & dryer are spotless....I know, I am pathetic!
Also, please if you guys root for the "Dawgs" (I prefer the term puppies better), don't tell me....it will make me queasy. Unlike your sweet wife, I am an obnoxious fan. In fact, we are stopping in Gville this Friday on our way down to Tampa. Lane has yet to visit Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium so this will be his first time!!
I hate moving too! We are going to move soon...so I have enjoyed reading this...the only thing I like about moving is that I can reorganize everything...and everything is its place for a little while...and under the fridge is clean...because I never clean under there! :)
I have to say I did not really enjoy moving. However, I do love my new place And I did love my new neighbors, until they moved to Georgia!!!!!! I wish them lots of luck. One good thing about moving is the new friends I am making. Some pretty great ones. Being in a new place is always nice. I would not like to have to move so much.
Hint for a new move: put your new phone number on the do not call registry list...we were getting 3 calls a day before I put my number on the list.
Best thing about moving...having a full inventory of all your "stuff"(junk).
...looking at old pictures while you pack and reminiscing about them
....scoping out all your fave restaurants and stores in your new neighborhood.
